Who we are
The College of Progressive Education formerly known as the The School of Practical Child Care and the School of Health and Social Care has led the way since 1986 in the development and delivery of childcare and more recently healthcare training in Ireland. The College is by far the largest private childcare college in Ireland and more importantly within the profession it is undoubtedly the most highly regarded. The College is also rapidly establishing itself as the leading healthcare training college in Ireland.

Our reputation is based on the belief that the welfare of the child and adult is paramount and that the best way to provide for this is to ensure that carers receive training and support of the highest quality. It is now accepted as standard that childcare and healthcare workers must receive training to work in these areas.

The teaching staff of the School is composed of highly qualified and committed people who have a wealth of experience in their respective fields. They are chosen for their warmth and for their ability to inspire, motivate and encourage.

Most of our courses are approved by the government backed FETAC – Further Education and Training Awards Council. These awards fit into the 10 point National Framework of awards and can lead to entry onto degree courses and are internationally recognised.
In the area of Healthcare we have also secured funding of up to 75% depending on the region from FAS under the one step up programme for our courses.

The College welcomes learners of all ages, nationalities and walks of life, and we take pleasure in helping them take the right steps towards a rewarding career in their chosen fields. For their part our students tell us time and again that the friendly, supportive and welcoming atmosphere in the College has made their time with us both enjoyable and rewarding.

The College of Progressive Education strives for excellence in meeting adult learners needs through the provision of the most inclusive, innovative and supportive ways of learning to enable our learners to deliver professional care to the highest standard

We offer numerous courses which range from the introductory right up to the highly specialised. Full time courses are offered in Dublin and part-time courses in approximately forty centres throughout Ireland. We also provide on-site training for groups at venues of their choosing. Our Distance Learning and online training courses provide a flexible approach for those who prefer to study from home, and they are of course particularly suitable for our many overseas learners.

Healthcare Support
This course is suitable for learners who wish to work with older adults in Nursing homes, Hospitals and in the Home

Up to 2005 carers of older people have not been offered the same quality of training as other groups of care workers in Ireland. They need to be given the same opportunities or access to further education to fulfill their professional development. The College of Progressive Education recognises the value of residential and day care workers as vital to the provision of quality care and support of older people.

Care workers have increasing contact with their clients, often much more than their professional colleagues and because they know and understand their clients to a much deeper level than those professionals who may only interact with the client for an hour at a time. We believe that these workers who are a crucial part of the care provision service for the elderly and should themselves be supported with a thorough and in depth training. The College of Progressive Education has been developing and delivering flexible training courses to suit the needs of the learner and nursing home managers/owners.

The course provides learners with the internationally recognised FETAC Level 5 Certificate in Healthcare Support . It also gives learners a good knowledge of the care of the older person which will enable them to secure positions in healthcare facilities throughout the country. Learners who achieve a high standard in their results will be able to apply for related degree courses in the universities and the IT colleges.
