Courses

MORNINGS ONLY COURSES
Courses in Health & Safety, Accounting Technician, Applied Psychology, Graduate Diploma in Interactive Media, Advanced Computer Applications, IT Trainer (JEB) with eLearning & TEFL, CISCO Networking and Interior Design are timetabled mornings only to cater for parents and part-time workers. The IT Trainer course, certified by JEB, offers graduates additional teaching qualifications including TEFL (certified by ACELS) and eLearning (course design, delivery and management).

BUSINESS - 3 YEARS TO HONOURS DEGREE
SCD offers a broad range of Business qualifications in Auctioneering, Business Studies, Marketing and Accounting Technician. The 2-year HND in Business Studies leads to a further 1 year at the Swansea Metropolitan University for an Honours BA.  A similar progression link with the Swansea Metropolitan University allows our 2-year Accounting Technician graduates take one further year to obtain an Honours BA in Business Studies or two further years to obtain an Honours BA in Accounting.

COMPUTING
With the upturn in the fortunes of the IT industry – currently there are 10,000 unfilled IT jobs on Irish websites - the College anticipates renewed demand for places in Computing courses, particularly in Interactive (Multimedia) Computing, which offers exciting career opportunities to those with an interest in computers combined with a talent for art and design.

The College offers professional qualifications in CISCO (CCNA) networking and PC Maintenance and Technical Support for which there is ever-increasing labour market demand. The PC maintenance course, aimed at those who have a particular interest in building, configuring and maintaining PCs and networks, attracts both beginners, from the age of 16 upwards and enthusiasts. It is non-academic with a hands-on practical emphasis.

The Interactive Media course attracts applicants who wish to combine design and computing skills.

In addition, SCD offers one-year Graduate Diplomas in Interactive (Multimedia) Computing and IT Teacher Training (JEB) with eLearning & TEFL.

BEAUTY, HOLISTIC, MAKE UP
SCD is regarded as the national leader in Beauty Therapy, Complementary Therapy, Theatrical & Media Make-Up and Spa Therapy.  The College is excited to offer two new courses in Beauty; the Nail Technician and Salon Administrator and the Retail Pharmacy and Beauty Sales Assistant.

DESIGN
The College offers professional Design qualifications in Interior, Garden, Landscape Design and in Interactive Media, all significant growth industries in our booming economy. The Interior Design course is certified by RHODEC (year 1) and BTEC/EDEXEL (years 2, 3). Graduates can apply for advanced entry to the Honours BA in Design (Interior and Furniture) in DIT.

The Garden Design course is for people interested in setting up their own Garden Design businesses. Garden Designers focus on smaller contracts - domestic and private gardens rather than open spaces, such as parks. There is more emphasis on outdoor work than in Landscape Design, where work is primarily studio based. It is most likely that the Garden Designer will end a day's work with dirty hands, whereas the Landscape Designer's might be smudged with pencil and ink!

Both the 2 year Garden Design and 2 year Landscape courses offer a one-year progression to an Honours Degree in the University of Gloustershire.
