Preparing For The Leaving Cert
Not only does the transition year help you learn new skills and develop your independent approach to learning, it also provides you with an extra year to think carefully about which leaving cert subjects you want to pursue.

Gaining an insight into different fields of study on open days and work placements may influence your decision as you may now have a stronger sense of what subjects and career areas you are interested in. This will make your choice of leaving cert subjects much easier!

The Leaving Certificate (Established) is a 2-year programme that provides you with a broad, balanced education. You are required to study at least 5 subjects, one of which must be Irish and are able to take the subjects at either Higher or Ordinary level. Most leaving cert students study 6 or 7 subjects and choose from 34 subjects in addition to Irish. These subjects are listed below:
