This section concentrates on some of the most difficult and rewarding careers out there. Working with people in an effort to making their lives easier – financially, mentally or spiritually – is an estimable occupation to pursue and that is the fundamental aspiration of these careers…

Psychology concentrates on observing and analysing human behaviour. Many aspects are studied, such as the effects of childhood experiences or cultural surroundings on later life. It aims to assist those who, for any number of reasons, find it difficult to flourish in society.

Those who feel their vocation lies in priesthood often find themselves in an extremely respected stratum of society due to the effects their work and faith can have on a community; especially those in need of spiritual guidance. Similarly the Sisters of Mercy were established in 1831 with a view to 'care for the poor, sick and ignorant'.

A social worker has similar aspirations as this line of work entails working with those less fortunate and helping them change their situation in a positive way.

All of these careers and vocations undoubtedly offer challenging and fulfilling work. As Irish society continues to grow and transform around us there has never been more of a need for guidance for those finding this rapid social change difficult…
